Thanks for all the fish.

So long folks, that's it for the Moose.

I just can't find the time to keep this blog going any longer.

To be honest, when I started it, I never thought anything would come of it. I've been reading the decent blogs for a long time before starting my own and I didn't really think I could get in with such calibre. You folks have made that possible for me and I thank you.

One year down the line and it's been emotional.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed with comments, insight, feeling and given me a a general sense of, I'm not alone in the universe.

I'll miss you folks.

The blog will stay up and I'll still be around to comment on others.

Maybe when the summer comes....

Who knows?

Friday night Moose music. The evening session.

The car went for it's MOT today. Two hundred and eighty quid all in. It needed some welding as expected but it didn't totally break the bank.

So now it's time to kick back with some cigars and cheap supermarket booze, stick two fingers up to Shenker and Arnott, and play some old skool.

Friday night Moose music. One hit wonders.

Spin Doctors

Two Princes was the Spin Doctors only chart success in the UK, although they did make it to number 23 with "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong".

Apparently they formed in the USA in the eighties, under the name, "Trucking Company".

And here's another one for your Friday night delights - Vanessa Paradis.

Although quite big on the continent as an actress, singer and model, Joe Le Taxi was her only musical success in the UK, at the tender age of 14.

Friday night Moose music. Where are they now?

Deacon Blue

The answer this time is, they're still going strong.
They did split in 1994 but re-formed in 1999 with a reunion gig, then a new album, "Walking back home".

They appeared at The Homecoming Live Final Fling Show, at Glasgow's SECC in November 09 and headlined Glasgow's Hogmanay on 31 December 2009 and the Liverpool Echo Arena, on 29 July 2011

Ricky Ross, Deacon Blue's frontman released two solo albums during the time the band were apart. He had a solo album before the band originally formed and is still working on his solo career now as the band only play as Deacon Blue on a part time basis.

Formed in Glasgow in 1985 they were one of the top selling bands of the 80's and 90's, with seven top twenty albums and seventeen top forty hits.

Though only a part time band now, I'm sure there's a lot left in them.

Self defence

As a citizen you are not allowed to defend your self.

The reason?

These people are scared of you,

They don't want to you to be armed because you may defend yourself against them. They will use these people,

to keep you unarmed and defenceless.

If you meet this man,

or this man,

or these people,

you may need one of these,

or these,

or even one of these,

but these people will not allow that,

Instead, you have to rely on one of these,

but you've more chance of finding these,

So you're in trouble.
The only way to defend yourself is if you are one of these,

These people,

cannot use these people,

to take away this,

The government have not disarmed criminals, they have disarmed you.

In this life, you only get 152 chances.

'Last chance' for former Nelson thief with 151 convictions

The title of this article says it all really. This thiefs 152nd chance is now his last one.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Michael David Dwyer, formerly of Nelson, had broken into PJ’s Diner, when he was short of bus fare, taking £45 from the till and £75 from under the counter.

But the owner found a bloody tissue when he reopened the diner the following day, and a match was found with Dwyer’s DNA profile.

The court heard Dwyer had 151 convictions, dating back to 1994.

151 previous convictions and still he gets...

He was given a 12-month community order, including supervision and a three-month nightly curfew.

What makes them think this time is going to be any different to the last ones?

His barrister Nicholas Walker said his client, while on remand, had had a chance to reflect on his life, with the imminent arrival of his second child.

Well that explains it. But wait. Did he not reflect on his life all the other times he was on remand, or when his first child was born. Should I really be the one asking these questions? Are British magistrates fit for purpose anymore?

Dwyer had given police assistance in clearing up a number of unsolved crimes so he could make a fresh start, he added.

Now that's a better explanation. He clears up a lot of unsolved crimes, making the coppers look good, and gets off nice and lightly.

useyourhead, great harwood says...

It would have been better for society if his dad had just left a tissue behind!

Now that comment made me giggle.

It's the wrong kind of silver

Taxi driver banned from the road...because his cab is the wrong shade of silver

Asif Khan has worked as a taxi driver in Manchester for seven years.
But when he decided to swap his private-hire car from a silver Volkswagen Passat to a silver Honda Accord, he hit a snag.
The father-of-two was told by Manchester council that his badge could not be renewed because the new car did not meet the town hall's strict colour code.

They have a colour code for taxis? Councils just love making up petty rules for us minions to live by, but council approved colours for taxis? What on earth is that all about?

Bosses have ruled that cabs must be white or silver - and have issued a colour 'swatch' showing the exact shades which qualify.
The rule was brought in by Manchester council as a safety measure to help crackdown on bogus taxi drivers.

Ah I see. It's to prevent people other than the owners of many white and silver vehicles from posing as taxi drivers. What a cunning plan.

He said: 'I have been to the council twice and they say it is grey.
'The only way I can get it passed is by buying a new car or re-spraying it.
'But it's practically the same colour as my old car. It says silver in the log book and on the insurance documents.

If the council says it's grey then it must be. If the council says we've always been at war with Eastasia....

A spokesman for Manchester council said: 'The council has had a colour policy for private-hire vehicles for several years to improve passenger safety...

Because passengers are in danger from nasty blue or red cars...
'Manchester's licensed private-hire vehicles can be either silver or white, but difficulties have arisen because the DVLA's definition of silver includes shades ranging from grey to blue.
'A clearer definition of silver was introduced in 2008 to avoid confusion and make it easier for taxi operators when choosing new vehicles.

You know what would make it even easier? Let them have any colour they want.

'However, some people do make mistakes and in cases like this we provide advice and refund the application fee.'

Oh the eternal benevolence...

Rent battle costs us 200 grand

Battle to evict mother on benefits owing £3,500 rent costs taxpayers £200,000

The battle to evict a mother from her home because she owed more than £3,500 in rent arrears ended up costing taxpayers £200,000.

Town Hall bosses wanted to kick Rebecca Powell out of her house because she was in so much debt to the council on the accommodation she was given.

She was given the house because she was homeless and received thousands of pounds in benefits.

Her case was then dragged through the County Court, Appeal Court and the Supreme Court, ended up costing £200,000.

That's weird. She was given the house because she is homeless and she is receiving benefits? So where does the rent money come from? If she is ex-homeless and on benefits, surely she gets housing benefit to pay the rent? So why on earth is she in debt to the council? Have I missed something?

Anyway. The council wanted her out of the property (presumably so she can become homeless and , er...get a house) so why was it so difficult to evict her if she is so far behind with the rent payments?

The Supreme Court said that - under the controversial European Convention on Human Rights – this would be a breach of the right to ‘respect for a person’s home’.

Now that is a troubling ruling. What about the right of the property owner to get paid? Does this mean renters can now just stop paying rent and appeal to the human rights act to keep their houses anyway? It certainly seems that way.

Passing judgment last week, Lord Hope made it clear the ruling had its origins in Strasbourg. He said the ‘time had come to accept and apply the jurisprudence of the European court’.

Or...

We could tell the unelected buggers in Strasbourg to fuck the fuck off.

I hope we start to see a lot more cases like this in the news. It can't be very long before the concept of EU membership becomes so unacceptable to the British public that we finally force that referendum we were promised.

Retards

A councillor branded people protesting against cuts at a Hull City Council meeting "retards" in a rant on Twitter.

Good man! I couldn't agree with you more. I bet the retards weren't happy though.

Mr Fareham, who has since apologised, has been criticised by Mencap.

Unison has demanded action is taken over his "disgraceful behaviour".

Indeed. One group of rent seekers accepting offence on behalf of others and a trade union. Could this response have been any more predictable?

So if Mencap got snooty about it, why? Were actual handicapped people, the brunt of this tweet?
Unison regional organiser Steve Torrance said several people with physical and learning disabilities were in the public gallery at the time.

Really? What diverse times we live in. I must go and celebrate it. So if it wasn't the Hull tourettes society in the gallery, what had they done to annoy him?

Plans approved at the meeting, which was delayed due to hecklers, included the axing of 1,400 jobs and cuts to day care centres, leisure centres and highway budgets.
The Bricknell councillor said the comment was "misguided", and added in a further Twitter post that it came after he was "abused for hours, returned home to excrement in house and saw intimidation".

Retards.

This was the offending tweet:
"15 hours in council today very hard hitting day and the usual collection of retards in the public gallery spoiling it for real people."

I assume he's been forced to apologise?
A Mencap spokesman said: "Councillor Fareham has now apologised for using that language, both on Twitter and to Mencap.

Of course. I'm sure he meant every word of it.

"We campaign about the use of language offensive to people with a learning disability because we believe that it contributes to a culture where harassment and bullying of people with a learning disability is all too common."

Bollocks.
