A cat owner was spoken to by police over claims of harrassment because his pet wandered into a nearby garden.As I commented on this story over at Longriders, the British police keep looking for ever more imaginative ways of convincing us they are no longer fit for purpose. It's unbelievable that someone thought they could ring the police because a cat was in their garden, but it's much worse that the police actually responded.
Mr Khan, 30, was told that a neighbour had phoned to report the cat for regularly going into his property, and asked by the policeman to keep her under control.
"I just couldn't believe a police officer had taken the time to come to my house and talk to me about my cat," said Mr Khan, from Pitsmoor, Sheffield.
"I would have thought they would have better things to do with their time than to send an officer on inquiries about cats that wander about. It's what cats do.
Of course they were unrepentant, saying that any claim of harrassment must be fully followed up.
Either this mean spirited nonce who phoned the police is one of those who have been brought up to think the coppers are their for the sole purpose of protecting peoples delicate feelings, or they were just using them.
"I hate cats. How can I cause by neighbour some grief? Ahh, I know, I'll call the police, they're bound to respond."
As a society we have become extremely intolerant of others. Hatred of smokers, drinkers and fat people is rife in the news, Longrider could give you some stories of rampant cat haters, in fact anyone who disapproves of anothers lifestyle for whatever reason, now seems to have a vioce to vent thier hatred and force change on the hated.
People need to change. We need to return to a society that tolerates other peoples little idiosyncrasies rather than singling them out for denormalisation.
The police need to change. They need to return to a force that prevents and detects crime against person and property, and stop acting as the bully boys for a population of small minded people
