111 still beleive in democracy

I watched almost the entire debate on the EU referendum yesterday. There were some good speeches and some total arse wibble.

I never really expected the vote to be carried, truth be told, but I did expect more than 111 votes in favour.

So the majority of our Parliament, 483 MP's believe we are nothing more than little children who need to be looked after by the state and have our choices made for us. It's mot really surprising is it when you look around at all the illiberal laws we have forced upon us to dictate our lifestyles.

If they don't trust us to have a fag in a pub or dispose of a carrier bag correctly, how do they expect us to decide on something as important as the European Union.

It's not like they are very good at making choices themselves though, is it? They can't even be trusted not to blow our money on huge expenses bills, never mind something big like keeping the deficit down, the economy on track, illegal immigrants out, crime down....

Need I go on?

If I ever had any respect for our system of Government, it dissolved last night.

European Union important?nah! the European Union is,nt important. What was lost last night was far more important for we lost our sovereinty it slipped silently away the way these things do .No great hubbub from the M.S.N or the people. We will all sit back and gripe as this morass sweeps over us.

Smoking - Yes it's definately time for that.

Anon - I didn't mean the union itself was important, rather the British people getting to decide on our membership.

I wish I lived in Libya. They value freedom and democracy (maybe) over there.

I dunno Michael. It looks like Sharia is about to take over there.

I was going to write a piece on this, Bucko, but frankly I am so disillusioned that I can't even be bothered.

What really got me was that archtwat Michael Gove on the BBC ths morning going on about how we need to stay in the EU so we can "renegotiate the repatriation of powers to the UK"

It doesn't seem to have occured to the thick bastard that the quickest way to repatriate powers is to quit the EU. I believe the expression is "at a stroke"...

It also occured to me that if Cameron had let them all have a free vote, then the result wold have been the same, if a little tighter. What is he frightened of?

Seems to me we got rid of one bunch of arseholes and replaced them with another. I expected better - which I guess just means I'm very naive!

Last night's proceedings were another nail in the coffin of democracy.

Dioclese - The didillusionment you feel is the same reason why my bit was so short.
"At a stroke" makes perfect bloody sense. Well to folk like us anyhoo.
I also expected better. I actually voted Conservative because I was desperate to get rid of Labour but we just ended up with more of the same.

Of course we were never going to even remotely consider leaving Europe.

Not only is there a gravy train waiting for all our noble MPs but before it arrives at Westminster and bears off the great and good to cosy pension-protected jobs in Brussels, our current MPs don't have to do anything but accept what orders and dictats are sent from Europe.

Like Bucko I voted Tory, thinking that would help. But, silly me... Cameron's useless lot turned out to be nothing but a sad echo of NuLab. As we will now never get away from the hypocrisy, spin and greed of politicians in any party I hereby declare I will never vote again. There is simply no point, even as a 'protest'

As I doubt we will ever be allowed to vote in a referendum on Europe then I won't be voting there, either.

VFNV - "Like Bucko I voted Tory, thinking that would help."

What surprised me the most was how little it helped and how soon it became apparent that they were just the same as the last lot despite their talk.
None of them have any shame, they don't even pretend anymore.

I'll believe it when I see 111 MPs signatures on the repeat petition, until then they're just 111 token "rebels"
