Bollocks to Reparations

From the Guardian:

The owner of the Guardian has issued an apology for the role the newspaper’s founders had in transatlantic slavery and announced a decade-long programme of restorative justice.

The Scott Trust said it expected to invest more than £10m (US$12.3m, A$18.4m), with millions dedicated specifically to descendant communities linked to the Guardian’s 19th-century founders.

First they are begging for donations because no bugger buys their gutter shite anymore, then they are embarking on a massive £10 program of reparations for somthing that happened way in the past

 

Are they skint or not?

 

There are so monay things wrong with the idea of paying reparations. These are a few that I've spotted, but I bet there's many more:

 

The most obvious is that nobody alive now either owned a slave or picked cotton (I'm not going to go down the road of this 'modern slavery' tripe, as when reparations are mentioned, it's only ever about black people and the Atlantic slave trade. No other slavery ever existed, according to these morons).

Why should people have to apologise for things done by their lond dead ancestors? Why should people get free money because something bad happened to the long dead ancestors?

 

Reparations will only be paid to black people who descended (possibly, possibly not) from african slaves and now live in western countries. These black people have a much better life now, that people in Africa whose descendants were never slaves, do so now

Well maybe they just have the option of a better life. Some choose not to take it, as they prefer to cry racism and demand life for free (Those that haven't been shot for dealing drugs on the wrong street corner, that is)

 

If because of the above observation, reparations are ever paid out in Africa, the money would be going to the descendants of people who caught the slaves and sold them to the white traders

 

Many generations of people have lived between the days of slavery and now. Why would reparations be paid to the current generation, when they have never been paid to previous ones? And more importantly, after the western world has bankrupted itself paying reparations to the current generation, who pays the next one?

I'll say for damn sure, that when the current generation get their money, they will spend it, and when the next generation comes along, they will want more of the same

If this nonsense gets a toe hold, black people will begin to live off reparations forever and white people will become the slaves, to pay for it all

 

And why only black people and why only American / English slaves?

When does Egypt pay reparations to the descendants of those who built the pyramids? Those slaves went through hell on Earth, in their short, miserable lives

And when does Italy pay for the slaves the Romans had, including those that were made to fight and die for their amusement?

What about Greece and their slaves?

In fact, what about every country in the developed world who have used slaves at one time or another when their economies were emerging?

 

The very idea that we should give money to people whose distant ancestors had a bad time of it, through no fault of our own, is preposterous, but here we are...
