Porn. A comments question answered

My last post on the porn debate was about a fourteen year old boy who raped a five year old girl, but the judge let him off and blamed his behaviour on internet porn.

Robert the Biker asked the following question in the comments:
I [...] wonder why this little shit survived long enough to come to court; he would not have were it my daughter.
And that sentiment was then seconded by another comment.

Well the answer to that question depends on the character of the father involved. What would you do?

Are you totally disillusioned with the British justice system that you would dish out your on justice or do you believe in the system and are happy to accept the outcome?
Do you find the police to be useless and think it would be better to take the lad round the back than hand him over to them or are you happy that they will perform a speedy and thorough investigation in the name of justice being done?
Are you willing to risk prison yourself or is the risk not worth it?

With all those questions in mind, the answer to why the father never took the law into his own hands should be, "We will never know".

Well actually we do know because he decided to tell the Daily Mail.

My daughter's sickening ordeal and why we MUST bring in an automatic bar on these vile websites

There's your answer. He has bought into everything he has been told. The judge sold him a dummy and he happily got his wallet out.

So now we have another grieving parent demanding a ban. This is normally the point where the writer says, "This man has my deepest sympathy but....."

Well I'm not going to do that because I'm growing tired of grieving parents shamelessly attacking the civil liberties of our country under the banner of disagree and you must support the rights of Peados, murderers, rapists etc.

Sarah Payne
John and Penny clough
Michael Brown
Jackie McCord
And of course,
Doreen and Neville Lawrence

I would show sympathy for this man if he chose to vent his anger at the muppet judge who let his daughters rapist walk free, and our society of no responsibility, but he didn't. He bought the lie.
The victim’s parents understood he would receive a three-year custodial sentence – but he was let off with a community order instead after a judge blamed ‘the world and society’ for his porn addiction.

The girl’s father has now backed the Mail’s Block Online Porn campaign, which wants internet users to be required to contact their service provider if they want access to adult material.
Well thank you very much. Because the justice system failed you, you now want me to register as a porn user.

And where there is a proposed ban there is always an authority figure who wants to milk it

Internet porn is making teenage relationships more violent says country's top law chief

Why? Why is internet porn responsible. Even if teenage relationships are becoming more violent, why do you think it is down to online porn rather than it being just one more symptom of broken Britain and the feckless youth of today?

Maybe because banning internet porn would be a nice quick and easy fix. The knee jerk reaction politics that we love so much today.

Of course it wouldn't make any difference to violence in relationships in the long run, but if you get your ban you can walk away tomorrow saying look how good I am. I did something for the kiddies.
Conservative MP David Rutley, who is also a parliamentary aide to Home Office minister Damian Green, said: ‘Keir Starmer’s comments are an important contribution to the debate. They highlight that the Government is right to take a real interest in this issue and why the internet service providers must step up to the plate and start protecting children online.’
I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is no more the ISP's responsibility to protect children online than it is Ikeas responsibility to protect you from being hit over the head with one of their chairs.

And some of the muppets in this debate could do with such a wallop.
