Nabeel Ahmed was prosecuted after council officers caught several men smoking shisha pipes at his Chicken Junction business in Royle Road, near Burnley’s UCLan campus.Good man. I applaud anyone who choses to ignore this ridiculus legislation. The trouble is, I only ever find out about smoking bars when I read in the paper that they have been busted. One day I'll discover one that I can actually use. (Preferably one that serves booze though).
Enforcement officers* from Burnley Council visited the premises in March after complaints were received by the council that smoking was being permitted within the premises.
The officers also found a number of booths, a bar area and other smoking paraphernalia on display.
Despite warnings, when enforcement officers and police carried out a further visit customers were found smoking from pipes supplied by staff at the premises.
Ahmed, 31, of Wilton Close, Blackburn, was fined £1,200 for failing to stop persons smoking in his premises and £500 for failure to display ‘No smoking’ signs.
A council spokesman said: “Mr Ahmed chose to ignore warnings from council officers that the smoking of Shisha pipes on his premises was illegal under the smoke free legislation, hence this prosecution.Illegal for consenting adults to get together and have a smoke. That is still beyond me, even after three years of it.
“Our message to all premises which ignore this legislation is that you will be liable to prosecution and as in this case may face a hefty fine.”My message to premesis that ignore this legislation is, good on you. And can I come?
I also have a message for "Enforcement Officers". Fuck the fuck off!. Can you not see that what you are doing is wrong in so many ways?

You just wonder don't you how the little Hitler’s at the Council got to hear about this in the first place.
You see - this is what a nasty perverted piece of social engineering does to once decent honourable people. It now gives a licence to all skulking shites to crawl from under their rocks and spy...then report back to their frothing at the mouth - jack-booted superiors.
This spiteful legislation has turned this country of ours into a stinking, foul smelling...rotten little maggot pile!
I would rather live in a cesspit.
My baseball bat awaits.
Anon - I'd like to see a couple of those home runs ;-)
In my (admittedly limited) experience, some arabic restaurants offer customers pipes filled with fruit pulp or mixed herbs - does this count?
Macheath - I've have no idea at all. If there is no tobacco in them, can you smoke them in pubs?
Isn't the fruity stuff mixed in with tobacco? I just dont know.
I'm sure the enforcement muppets could find a way to do you even if you were smoking a rolled up copy of the Guardian.
It raises an interesting question but a cursory google doesn't show up any info on the legal side.
There seems to have been protests by the Turkish community when the ban originally came in. They said their tobacco was not as harmful as the proper stuff, there was no evidence it was (who needs that) and their businesses are just for smoking as they dont drink.
Quotes from the department of health include:
""still the right decision [to include shisha] because it is proved to still be dangerous""
No evidence
""and that the legislation should apply to everyone. ""
For fairness I assume. They love that word.
