Actual trans people make up a very small percentage of society, yet the vocal activists and their enablers are loud enough to be dictating policy in all the institutions of Government and society
The lunatics really have taken over the assylum
University of York drops students' initials from email addresses in trans-friendly move
I had a good think about that headline before clicking on the link. It was obviously just another pile of woke bollocks from another university that is not fit to be imparting knowledge on others, so not worth my attention, but for the life of me, I could not think how removing initials from email addresses would help trans people
I clicked, and to be honest, I'm still none the wiser
The University of York has dropped students' initials from the email addresses it assigns people in a trans-friendly move. The university traditionally used the first letters of a students' first name and surname to create their email and username for the duration of their time at the institution.
Yep. Seems a fairly standard way of assigning multiple email addresses. So how does it adversely affect trans people? Using only two initials, you can't even accidently spell ;TERF', 'WOMAN', or, 'ONLY MEN CAN HAVE A PENIS'
So what's the beef?
"Usernames are a unique identifier for users within the University."Unfortunately, basing them upon a person's initials means that some people ask for their username to be changed when they believe that it no longer reflects their identity."This normally happens when someone has changed their name - for example, following marriage or divorce, to adopt a Western name, to distance themselves from a difficult family relationship or to match their gender identity."
Surely, in such rare cases, those people can simply ask to have their email changed?
And really, what does it matter anyway, if only two initials are being used? My uni email might be something like: bm123@wokeuni.com. If I changed my name to Bucko the Elk, would I really need to alter that email address to reflect it? It would seem like a pointless excercise to me
It added: "We feel that breaking the link between a person's name and their username is important for making the University of York a more inclusive place to work and study."
There's barely a link to begin with. This sounds like a woke HR officer, desperately seeking relevance
With our existing systems, we are not able to fulfil any requests by staff or students to change their username to more accurately reflect their current initials
So they can't ask for a change, becuase the computer says no
That HR officer would be better off learning to code. And adapting the email system to something more flexible
Or alternatively, learning to tell people to get stuffed
