Porn again

There's another call before parliament to block internet porn at the point of access. Tory MP (that's a laff) Claire Perry wants all porn to be blocked by a special filter, and those of us who want to watch it to be made to 'opt out' of said filter.

We've been through all this before and I've no doubt we will continue to go through it until those illiberal nitwits in power who want to treat us all like children, get their way.

As Ed Vaizey said in 2010,
“This is a very serious matter. I think it is very important that it’s the ISPs (internet service providers) that come up with solutions to protect children.” “I’m hoping they will get their acts together so we don’t have to legislate, but we are keeping an eye on the situation and we will have a new communications bill in the next couple of years.”
now Ms Perry says,
‘This is hugely worrying. ‘While parents should be responsible for their children’s online safety, in practice, people find it difficult to put content filters on the plethora of internet-enabled devices in their homes.
And this muppet is even worse. Vaizey only wanted porn blocked to homes with children, which is bad enough, Perry wants it blocked to all houses.

She at least admits that parents should be responsible for their children's online activity, but goes on to say that they find it a bit too difficult and the government needs to step in and do it for them.

Parents should be responsible for their children and no one else. If they are a bit baffled by technology then they should get up to speed before buying the equipment and allowing their children online, or even consider if it's appropriate to allow young children online at all, without supervision.

We are told there is a,
surge in children seeing adult material,
but of course were given no evidence of this 'surge'. Children are probably more interested in calling each other names on Facebook than logging onto Big and Bounceys, Bored and Buxom Babes.

What's most likely is that MP's couldn't give a tiny rats arse about kids watching porn, they just want to regulate the internet and, 'for the children' is a good excuse. Say you're doing something, anything, to protect the children and the angry masses will be clamouring happily to support it.

It's the control they want. The internet is all about free speech because it's unregulated. They have already begun to censor Twitter, but they won't stop until they can regulate the whole thing.

Like the Quiet Man says, this is only the first step on the inevitable slippery slope. After they've blocked porn sites it will be terrorist sites, another easy target, but it will roll on until even sites like this one that have the cheek to complain about the government will be blocked. They will say, "You didn't complain about porn, how can you complain about [insert target]?" You see, one loss of liberty, even if it doesn't affect you directly, is a loss for everyone none the less.

This is a loss of libertry because the government once again wants to treat it's electorate like children because of as minor issue, and it's the first (2nd?, 3rd?) steps towards internet regulation and censorship.

And no doubt those who 'opt out' will be recorded on a government database.

Run away! Run away! It's the internet and it's coming for YOU!
A sheep with an unfeasibly large bow tie tells it like it is.
