Saturday (I don't want to blog about politics) night

Is it me or are British bought fags turning into shit?

I've just finished the stash I bought on the last Belgium trip so I went to Sainsburys to buy some more. They have the shutters up now too. These multi million pound industries with serious lobbying power, love to bend over when told to by the government don't they.

Anyhoo, I bought a few packs of the miniatures that I smoke on a daily basis and a pack of the larger panatellas for tonight. I smoked one of the minis and it was gone in seconds. It also tasted like cack, but that could have been because of the hangover. (I'd like to tell you about the free beer I was drinking last night but I'm not allowed to, sorry).

I tried one of the panatellas instead. Normally I would smoke one of those over two sittings, but this time it was gone in one. The tobacco was very loosely packed and little blobs of foul tasting tar were congealing at the tip.

The Belgian cigars I have just finished were gorgeous. They also cost less than half the price of British ones.

What do you think? Are cigar makers cutting down on content and quality to keep costs down?

What about fags? Have any cigarette smokers noticed a drop in quality?I believe those 'Low Ignition Propensity' cigarettes have now been brought in. How do they taste?

My first two trips to Belgium were just testers and I didn't spend a lot of money. The next time I go I'm buying enough to last, because I can't carry on smoking this rubbish. To buy cigars over here I'm going to have to change to a superior brand which I can't afford to do.

My car got it's new MOT certificate this morning. £200 quid it cost to get through. It was supposed to be £350 but I did some of the work myself because I had set a limit of £300.

Did you know they fail you for a broken wing mirror glass now? MOT's are getting way too strict. I think they are trying to get older cars off the road, probably something to do with the environment. I don't care, I don't like modern cars, they have absolutely zero character.

Have you notice the modern trend of replacing the words no, none and nought with 'zero'. Zero sugar, zero tolerance on dog fouling. Is it supposed to sound more hard hitting? It just sounds silly to me.

Anyhoo, the handbrake fudge that saved me fifty quid. The handbrake was only holding at 10% efficiency. The cable had been tightened as far as it would go so I removed the two lock nuts, put a few washers over the retainer, replaced the lock nuts and tightened them up fully. One working handbrake for the cost of a few washers.

So I now have a P reg Seat Cordoba with twelve months MOT for sale at £350 quid if anyone's interested. It starts first time, drives well and has one hundred and eighty eight thousand genuine miles.

You won't find another like it!

I'm off to have another of those free beers. Where did I get them from, I hear you ask.

Sorry, still can't tell you.
