Where has all the porn gone!?

Has the Government censorship of all internet porn already begun?

There is a lot of porn out there on the web and I can't access any of it. I go to a porn site and just get the 'Connection has timed out' error. It's not just porn either, a lot of stuff is missing.

I had a letter a few days ago telling me that our ISP, Toucan, has been bought out by Talk Talk. It assured me that things would continue as normal and I wouldn't notice the change.

Well I've noticed it alright if this is what's causing my problem.

TalkTalk claims leading Conservatives are "pleased" with a new service being offered by the ISP that allows parents to block adult content on all devices in the home.

TalkTalk's new HomeSafe system provides network-level protection against malware, as well as giving parents the option to block certain types of content, including pornography, gambling and violent websites.

It would seem that talk talk are bending over backwards to please TPTB and the Tories couldn't be happier. Well I'm not pleased.

The Talk Talk website says HomeSafe has to be activated by the user and it can be controlled via your user account. I'm thinking they've activated it for every bloody Toucan account they've bought and I don't have a bloody user account with them.

What's it come to when a man can't look at a pair of tits in the comfort of his own home? I'm off to give Talk Talk a stern talking to. I'll probably end up getting my mac code and moving on.

I guarantee that you won't manage to give TT a "Stern talking to". They are complete fuckwits, and make the customer service of another firm they bought (Tiscali) seem almost human by comparison. Talktalk are by far the worst ISP in this country, and the only reason I haven't also moved on is the hassle involved with changing multiple email addresses.

If you manage to get a MAC code be very careful to keep copies of ALL your correspondence regarding cancelling the contract. TT have been repeatedly censured by Ofcom over ignoring customers requests, and sending bailiffs after them...

Microdave - I called them earlier and they put me through to tech support in Bombay. Once the call had gone through, the 'problem' had gone and I had access to everything again. Baffled.

I have also heard stories about Talk Talk. According to the lass I spoke to who put me through to 'Mr Smith' the techie, they haven't been bought, they've merged.

I've been with Toucan for probably five years now and they've always been the cheapest and the service has never let me down.

I don't have the email problem because I use virgin for that but it's still a hastle changing. I need to think about weather it's now worth the hasstle to move on or not.

Oh, OK, since you asked - this will get through any filter.

:)

Julia - Yes, thank you. That's exactly what I was talking about. *Ahem*

That's nothing - I can select channel 9 on any of our TV's and watch our resident Great Tit in her bedroom....

As for a "merger" - Bollocks!! The UK arm of Tiscali was put up for sale by the Italian family that owned it. It took them the best part of a year before they finally sold it to TT - presumably by then they were getting desperate, and had to take what they could get.

Since then Tiscali's operations have been transferred to TT - they told us the email servers were going to be upgraded, and I've had more problems since than before. "Tech support" is a joke. I doesn't matter if you ask for help as total novice, or give them a detailed report of the fault. You will STILL get exactly the same "standard" reply. It's obvious that your first email contact is not read, and they hope you will sort it out yourself. The only trouble is that if you follow their "suggested" remedies you stand a very good chance of deleting all your emails...

Oh, and I got a warning from Firefox that their site was using an outdated security certificate, and I could be about to be scammed...

When I sent a detailed 11 point response (with screen-shots) I actually got somewhere, and even had a call from a real engineer who told me the fault that supposedly was unique to me, was actually affecting "lots of customers".

Talktalk are a bag 'o shite...

Microdave - On top of that I read in the papers today that they have been fined 3 million quid for billing people who have left (I think you mentioned that) by ofcom.

I'll be looking to change providers this weekend.

Yep, - make damn sure you record/keep copies of ALL your correspondence.

Plenty of unlucky (ex) customers have found the bailiffs knocking on their doors...

Will do!
