Ram Jam - Black Betty
Causing controversy in 1977 for apparently insulting black women, Black Betty was Ram Jams only singles chart success.
Front man Bill Bartlett had previously released Black Betty with the band Starstruck, however it received little airplay and achieved no success.

Incidentally, isn't it a wonderful example of serendipity that this all-American band somehow ended up with the same name as an 18th-century roadhouse on the A1?
Even better, according to Wikipedia, The band were re-christened "American Ram Jam" for the UK market to avoid confusion with a UK band with the same name.
Erm.. I don't get it?
'A British-based academic was at the centre of an international race row after citing ‘research’ that claimed black women are uglier than other races'
I totally was not aware of that story. The research is valid IMO.
And here was me thinking you were making a satirical point!
If you missed that, you may not have seen this story either - I considered doing something with it but couldn't quite bring myself to do it.
As far as suicides go, that one has to be the wierdest ever.
