Hi Bucko Lysistrata here. "Waves". The Ciggy Busters Facebook site was removed (or poss I was removed from it, do someone let me know..) by 7.00pm this evening.
While it was up, I noticed that its "friends" were mainly older academics/health people/ pr people. Rachael Noxon amongst them posted a "Request to be a Friend" to the somewhat infamous US "Truth" site.
That site, which it's too late at night for me to find again now, was seriously sick and poisonous. I honestly hadn't realised until now how perverted the anti smokers had become. Believe me, as a pensioner, I hadn't come across anything as twisted as this before. The nearest was possibly the "Satanic Abuse" stuff 20 years ago, when the whole of the NSPCC and some children's social services seemed to go lulu within two months after training/ brainwashing.
I really don't blame the Buster kids, or the young (rather pompous but he actually does have some talent) photographer (Olly?)). They'll grow out of it, and it will have been an experience for them - hey, having to take both a Facebook site and a Utube posting down is serious stuff when you're 18. I don't think we should frighten them any more - life is hard enough and it makes their actions more important than they were. Cartier-Bresson smoked, so did their grandfathers, let's leave them be to discover life.
But the "professionals" - yeah, let's go for them. For example, Rachael has acted very unprofessionally. I suspect she has been brainwashed.
And the Italian artist-in-residence? Well, artists are notorious for not being bothered about the wider world. She simply (along with the school) went for GRANTS and MONEY where it was easiest and where she and the school could get paid.
For God's sake a school in special measures needs all the grant money it can get, and this one probably looked like an easy win. There's loads of cash around for anti-smoking, not that much cash around for serious teaching. I don't blame them, but it went seriously wrong.
To finish on a minor quibble - as this issue has gone a bit viral - people are now vaguely attacking this person called Carol for setting up "FatBusters" and "AlcoholBusters". I know Carol very well and I think she was kind of joking, as the same person did set up a "BadArtistsBusters" at the same time.
So....it would be a shame if her poor attempts at irony were taken seriously by freedom of choice people.
Sorry for rant. If I can ever be of further assistance...ask The Big Yin who I am. No-one special. Just an old smoker. Who will not give up.
Oh, bugger, I am such a klutz. I thought I lost this post earlier in its entirity, so reposted what I could remember in the previous thread. Which is so BORING. Apologies, very very humble, all round. Explanation is that I am posting through a Greek server and through power cuts, though no excuse for being so stupid. Er, have to admit to being Lysistrata, not Anon. Just don't blame another Anon. We Anons know who we are....really...
You are correct. The Ciggy Busters page has been taken down.
I agree with you that it's the "reponsible" adults who are really to blame in this. The kids have been horribly used to further the anti smoking agenda. However the kids do need to be taught that their actions are wrong if they are going to change. They need to know that smokers are human beings who deserve the same respect as everyone else and when you attempt to take away that respect they will fight back. (is respect the right word?) If a child is naughty, a parent may give them a smack. Well I think we have given these kids a collective smack and maybe they will think twice about getting involved in something similar in the future. As for the adults in this, particularly those employed using tax payers money I have no sympathy and have run out of tolerance. Im sure a lot of the other freedom loveing bloggers (and public) will agree with me.
As to the Alcohol and Fat busters, that was a hoax. Somebody told us yesterday. LOL.
Greek server you say? Are you in Greece? I am trying to learn Greek.
Hey I think this works!! I have an identity at last. It's me! "waves|". Took me several hours today to find my way through the Greek registration system. But I no longer need be "Anon". (Sorry this is a test email will do something more interesting later...) Er, and yes, liked the music post. And yes, have learnt some Greek. A bastard of a language. Where are you, Bucko? And love the Margaritafuhrer thingie. There seems to be a sixth former posting on there quite cheerfully saying her headmaster will "love" this. Good. I trust the rebelliousness of teenagers. Don't particularly want them to smoke, but do want them to be freedom fighters. If not then, when...?
Hi. Are you going to start a blog now you've got an identity? Your profile is hidden by the way (unless thats how you wanted it). Im in North West England. I'll check out the Fuhrer thing. Not seen it yet.
@ Bucko Ah, hidden am I? ok I'll go back and try and deal with that. At least it's given me a title other than "Anon". Nah, can't be bothered with my own blog. There's too many good ones already out there. I'll just remain a footsoldier. The Fuhrer thingie is quite nice. I still prefer my "BadartBusters" but it was a bit subtle. And was taken down along with the Facebook group. LegIron's latest post is really rather fine - about the type of war we are fighting. (Once I've worked out how to do links via a Greek server I would link to it. It's like writing in BASIC and FORTRAN all over again.) But it is a very fine piece of observation and writing.
