The Guardian (where else?), is moaning that women are being silenced by nasty men in courts of law
We’re in a moment of antifeminist backlash, and, increasingly, that backlash seems aimed at silencing women, or punishing the women who won’t shut up. It’s a perilous time for women’s speech – or at least, it’s a perilous time for women who speak out against sexism
Rot. It's never been a better time for women to speak out and be heard. If anything, it's the other way around. With all this #IBelieveHer nonsense, it's never been a worse time for a man to be falsely accused of something by a woman
But since Amber Heard (Who?) had her arse handed to het by the court for lying it off, that apparently equates to women being silenced
But though Depp’s lawsuit received an unusual amount of attention, his tactic of suing his accuser over her disclosure is not unique.Defamation suits are becoming a routine tool of retaliation and revenge for men accused of sexual and domestic abuse – and a growing threat to women’s ability to safely and freely speak about their own lives
Again, total rot. Women are, and always will be, quite entitled to speak about their own lives. The only catch is, they must speak the truth. If you talk bollocks about someone, male or female, you shouldn't be surprised if you get hauled before the bench to explain yourself
These lawsuits are not meant to determine whether a man should be punished for his abuse of women. They are meant to determine whether women should be punished for speaking about it.
I shouldn't still be surprised by the guff printed in the Guardian, but it still happens
They are indeed, not meant to determine if a man should be punished for abuse
They are also not about punishing women who speak out about it
They are about punishing people who falsely accuse others of crimes that could ruin their career and possibly destroy their lives. Or even just mildly inconvenience them; bollocks is still bollocks
Of course men who abuse women should be punished; they should have the key thrown at them, but only if they've actually done what they've been accused of. Those who falsely accuse, should also receive the full force of the law. Being a woman does not give you a free pass to lie about others
And on to something about abortion in America
...the court would soon overrule Roe and end the constitutional right to an abortion.
I'm no scholar on the subject, but I'm pretty sure abortion is not mentioned in the US constitution
Women are free to speak out about anything they wish, and do so with regular monotony. We've never lived in a better time for women to speak out about abuse. What riles me is that many of them don't. There's endless stories in the papers about women sticking with abusers because, "He will change", or, "I love him".
If you're being abused, speak up
If you're not, live by the wise words of our modern youth: "Chat Shit, Get Banged"
