When you turn language on its head

Cancel culture

You all know what it is and you all know where it comes from. The left wing progressives attempting to shut down any and all debate about their largely repugnant philosophies

A woman who should have won a female swimming race that was actually a man, complained about it on Twitter and had her account suspended. You cannot criticise the ideology of transgender without being targeted by the left wing mobs. And it's not just transgender. There are a whole host of repulsive, made up sexual identities and activities that these people want to become part of mainstream life and celebrated by all, with the threat of being targeted by mobs, losing your jobs or maybe even your freedom

And also racism. That's the new big thing and has become massive since the death of a black American criminal during the Covid era. Statues torn down, history erased, books banned, trigger warnings on books, plays, TV and anything else literary from any time period that has been deemed 'problematic' by the progressives

For most of us, this phenomenon appears to be largely new. Something that reared it's ugly head only a few years ago and gained very quick traction. The reality is that the bedrock has been laid for this attack on polite society for decades now. It has been referred to as 'The Long March Through the Institutions', amongst other things, and refers to the way the progressives, who cannot implement their unpopular policies via the ballot box, infiltrate various institutions and public sector bodies, until they have effective control over those institutions from the inside

Once achieved, they hold power from the inside, without having to be voted for by anybody. Those that do get into Government on the vote of the people, have very little power to remove the progressives from micro managed control of public life, or even to influence policy in those areas. See Donald Trump for further info

One thing the progressives like to use besides shouting down and accusation of various isms and phobias, is turning around the meaning of words. Redefining language makes it very hard to debate dumb-ass ideologies when you no longer have the language structure to effectively do so, without your words being used to either prove the opposite of what you are saying, or to paint you in a particularly bad light. See Orwell for further information

This article in the Guardian is the perfect example of how progressives turn language on it's head, turning black into white and destroying the meaning of words in order to further the left wing agenda
Progressives are resisting rightwing book banning campaigns – and are winning
'Right wing book banning campaigns'. Sounds terrible doesn't it? What's the first thing you think about when you hear the term, 'Right wing book banning campaigns'?

And the progressives are tirelessly and selflessly fighting until their last breath to prevent these atrocities

But of course we know full well it's nothing like that. Without wishing to invoke Godwins Law (Maybe too late), the above picture is much more representative of the progressive left and their ideology, than anything they profess to be right wing
The right wing in America has spent the past 18 months waging an increasingly vocal war on education, banning books and restricting the discussions teachers can have in classrooms...
Really, why?
...usually when it comes to issues like racism or sexuality.
Of course. What's really happening here is the following: Education was plodding along nicely and children were learning the things they needed in order to enter life as functioning adults (With obvious failings and exceptions, but that's not related). The progressives came along and started to poison the system with their vile teachings about mental illness based sexuality and made up propaganda regarding racism and how all white people oppress all black people. The Conservatives are now trying to do something to rid the education system of this nonsensical dogma

And that's what the Guardian is now calling book banning and censorship
That could be starting to change, however, as progressives have won a series of victories in some states, suggesting a backlash against education censorship could be on the way.
Nobody is looking for censorship. Normal people are trying to return education to what it used to be;  imparting knowledge that will be needed later in life, without indoctrination and political bias about things children should not be subjected to at a young age, or simply are not true / do not exist, other than in the warped minds of the left wing
So far in 2022 the left has forced Republicans in Indiana to abandon legislation that would have placed severe restrictions on what teachers can say in classrooms...
Those restriction of course, being against teachers flaunting their made up sexual identities or bullshitting about racial oppression
...while in New Hampshire liberal candidates won sweeping victories against conservative “anti-critical race theory” candidates in school board elections.
I once read that New Hampshire was the freest state in America. True or not, it's terrible that the left wing rot has set so deeply

Critical Race Theory is simply a way of calling all white people racist while saying all black people are oppressed and not responsible for the things that happen in their own lives. It's not just damaging to race relation as a whole, it's damaging to black people themselves. Telling people they are oppressed creates victims. It creates people who are incapable of making good decisions in their lives because they have been taught that the white man is responsible for anything that may go wrong. It breeds division and causes resentment, when none existed previously
Critical race theory is an academic discipline that examines the ways in which racism operates in US laws and society, but it has become a catch-all buzzword on the right.
It examines no such thing. It pretends racism operates in US laws and society and then uses that pretence to create preferential situations for some people over others, based on the colour of their skin. Critical Race Theory is racism incarnate and creates racism where none (or very little) existed before. No wonder Conservatives go on about it so much
In Indiana, education advocates celebrated in late February after HB1134, a bill which the Indianapolis Star reported would have restricted how teachers could discuss racial inequality and sexual orientation, was defeated
Makes you wonder who these 'Education Advocates' are. I'm sure a large number of them are simply single issue campaigners and pains in the arse, who have no actual direct connection to education. By writing this post and looking back to the good old days before this damaging parasitic bacteria infected the education system, I could probably call myself an education advocate. In that I advocate for proper education and not celebration of mental illness and paranoid delusion in the classroom

Unfortunately a large number of these advocates will also be teachers and school board members, who are part of the aforementioned, long march. If you read David Thompsons blog, you'll no doubt be aware of the persecution American teachers can go through if their views do not match what is deemed acceptable by these righteous, anti- censorship campaigners on the left
The death of HB1134 was an important victory for Indiana teachers, but Gambill said there had still been consequences.

“What we are finding both in the state of Indiana and nationally is that we are losing educators at an alarming rate.

“Some of that certainly is on pay, but that’s not the only thing that is driving the exodus. When you have bills such as this that continue to just be this wedge issue, invading your workspace, folks start looking around saying: ‘These other companies are hiring and I have all of the qualifications.’”
I doubt it. One thing I have noticed about the left is that it has staying power. If you are thick as mince and stubborn enough to believe in things like CRT and fifty-odd genders, you're thick skinned enough to stay and fight your corner against the evil right wing oppressors

I'm of the opinion that the loss of teachers is down to rational thinking educators jumping a sinking ship and getting jobs in industry's that aren't so contaminated with political toxicity
The Indiana legislation mirrored rightwing efforts in other states to drive honest discussion of race and sexuality from classrooms.
There has never been such an honest discussion, in classrooms or anywhere else. Honest discussions are not what the left wants, as honest discussions would see left wing ideology about race and sexual orientation, pulled apart in no time at all, with the minimum of effort. The left want compiance. That's why Twitter mobs exist
In Florida a “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which would ban discussion of sexuality and gender identity in schools, is expected to be signed into law by Ron DeSantis, the state’s governor
The Florida bill does not ban saying Gay, but that doesn't stop the left twisting it's meaning to suit their agenda. The bill is reported as:
The ban on discussing LGBT topics will apply largely to sex education at the primary grade levels, but also when "not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students".
The left want this shit taught to primary school children. If anyone objects, they want to 'stigmatise and isolate LGBT youth'
While the right wing has rallied around the issue of classroom censorship, there is little evidence that a majority of parents are demanding a crackdown on what their children can read, or be taught. In February a CNN poll found that only 12% of Americans believed parents “should have the most sway over which library books are on the shelves and how American history is taught”.
Again, we have a paragraph containing a factual statement about the 12% of Americans, but stripped of context and given another. The CNN article is linked in the Guardian piece and if you can be arsed reading it, it doesn't say what the Guardian is trying to tell us it says

Note:
While parental choice has become the subject of frequent political controversy, the CNN Poll found that most Americans reject the idea that the primary responsibility for what happens in the classroom belongs either to parents or to teachers and school officials. Majorities said both groups should have an equally important role in school-related decisions ranging from Covid-19 precautions to the way various school subjects are taught.
The gist of the part of the poll which references education, appears to be that parents want equal input into what happens in schools in a general sense, but don't want to get involved in the nitty gritty of things that parents may not be qualified in, like maths lessons. Or as stated above, what specific books should be in school libraries (Although that may just be because they haven't been in one for many years)
Far from there being a popular uprising against what teachers are imparting to students, the censorship efforts have frequently been pushed by conservative groups with ties to deep-pocketed right wing donors.
At least it's not the Russians this time

Groups like Moms for Liberty and Parents Defending Education have been instrumental in book banning attempts in the US, often presenting themselves as small, “grassroots” efforts, while in reality they have links to prominent, wealthy Republicans.
If a Prominent Wealth Republican donates money to a grass roots group, it doesn't mean they are no longer a grass roots group, it just means they are a grass roots group who now have the support of a Prominent Wealth Republican

It works the same when Prominent Wealth Democrats back grass roots groups. It does not mean the same when prominent wealthy people set up groups and try to pass them off as grass roots
Those groups have had success in several states by packing school boards, which have substantial say over what can be taught in schools,
If they can get in the odd school board I would call it a victory and a start. The left are packing everything
“Public education is a bedrock of democracy, and so many people are aware of that and I think the things that are happening now, talks of banning books and other things like that, that’s got a lot of people paying attention, and frankly this GOP strategy of trying to drive a wedge between parents and communities and their public schools is going to backfire in a major way.”
If anything is going to backfire, I hope it will be the progressives belief that they can control society and democracy, from behind the curtain

Unfortunately for now, they do appear to have won. Too many people are too scared to speak out and the political class do not have the will to stand up. There's a real backlash coming, but it's a long way off
