There was a local radio advert, shortly before the election that told us passive smoking causes cot death. Of course it provided no evidence to back up this wild claim.
Apparently, now there is an advice campaign in my area that uses beer mats to get information across to parents.
When I read this article I figured that passive smoking would probably have something to do with it.
Sure enough, the beer mats contain 10 points of information on cot death. Point number 5 is this:
5. Keep your home smoke free and don’t let others smoke near your baby
Now I would never suggest people should smoke around babies, but advising parents to keep their homes smoke free to prevent cot death, with no corroborating evidence is just another way of demonising smokers.
It doesn't mention third hand smoke.
Yet.
