I once spoke to an eminent cardiologist who told me - strictly off the record - that putting the whole nation on a low-fat diet and cholesterol-lowering drugs was a gross over-reaction.<br /><br />A minority of people - possibly due to a genetic defect - suffer serious ill-effects from exceeding a certain level of cholesterol; rather than try to isolate these people, vast amounts of money were thrown at policies designed to treat them by applying the conditions they neded to the entire population.<br /><br />The result was 'statins for all' and the proliferation of tasteless reduced-fat foods (known in the Tavern as FOFF [that's <i>F**k Off Fat-Free</i>].<br /><br />Alcohol being such a contentious issue in some circles, if this lot have got the begging bowl out, it will be interesting to see if any 'special interest groups' rise to the bait.Macheathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04451439759398780345noreply@blogger.com
