Back in 2006 I was stationary in a rush hour traffic island queue and got ploughed into at 60mph by an idiot using his mobile phone while driving his 4x. He'd failed to see me despite being several hundred yards behind me and by the time I realised he wasn't going to stop it was too late for me to get out of the car. Had I not been in a substantially built car I would have become concertina paste. As it was I had to be cut out of the wreck and my car was a write-off. I did some hospital time as a result. So yeah, this is personal. Book 'em. Book 'em hard.Gnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15473922379487381088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-232613925790974435.post-5523908039816473082011-01-08T05:38:16.727+00:002011-01-08T05:38:16.727+00:00"I despair for our society."

The report that Old Holborn Tweeted yesterday about removing choice and enforcing a healthy diet in Welsh schools had this line:

"Some pupils resented the fact that they as consumers were denied the right to choose the kind of foods they wanted."

Only 'some'? Clearly, we know what the others are going to turn into when they are old enough to write to local newspapers, don't we?JuliaMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07844126589712842477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-232613925790974435.post-32560708702571464852011-01-07T13:32:46.164+00:002011-01-07T13:32:46.164+00:00I do a lot of driving and it has to be said that m...I do a lot of driving and it has to be said that more often than not, when I pass an eratically driven car the driver is on the phone. And more to the point, expect everyone else to snap into line also, wailing that its not fair if somebody doesnt comply.Buckohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03169970711606515445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-232613925790974435.post-28385236098458094852011-01-07T11:00:19.145+00:002011-01-07T11:00:19.145+00:00Your point about the fund raising exercise is well...Your point about the fund raising exercise is well made. Only someone that has had there head stuck in the sand [or maybe somewhere else ;)] would fail to notice that the large sections of this nations Police Force are little more than revenue generators for the state.

I believe that the crux of the problem lies with peoples attitudes to risk and understanding the line drawn between cause and effect in terms risk mitigation and incident avoidance.

Strict liability laws prohibiting certain usage of devices have proven themselves counter-productive from this point of view (No doubt I'm not the only person still seeing people using mobiles whilst driving), but its kept the machine busy with new criminals to deal with.

Neither side is completely from blame.Jayce Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11546864700028185848noreply@blogger.com
